As a painting progresses it goes from high energy in the beginning to a slowing down of the process as I respond to my marks, shapes and colors. But getting to the end is a time of standing still to assess if it is done, not done. I ask myself always does it work as a whole (and don't sweat the small stuff or parts), does it have life energy, does it offer a varie of marks, is the composition interesting and is the color balanced. There are times when I over examine the parts instead of focusing on the whole. Hence the title.
